AQTIS 514 IATSE offers a wide range of courses on occupational health and safety (see below). With the exception of those courses that are provided through the Inis, all of these courses are free for AQTIS 514 IATSE members and permitees.
Every technician is responsible for keeping their cards and courses up to date.
Also, it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that you do in fact have the courses and competency cards required for the tasks for which you will be employed. If you do not have the required courses and competency cards, then the employer could legally refuse to hire you.
The employer is legally required to take the necessary steps to protect your health and safety. If an employer asks you to perform tasks for which you do not have the required competencies, you have the duty to refuse, so as not to endanger your colleagues or yourself.
